Since becoming a resident of Hove, Sir Paul has fallen in love with Brighton's storm battered West Pier. Recently, during a stroll along the promenade with Heather, he stopped to chat with volunteers working at the Brighton West Pier information kiosk. The couple learned about the restoration plans for the Victorian period pier. Plans to build some leisure buildings along the shoreline to help finance the project have met with strong opposition. Sir Paul and Heather have offered to help the friends of the West Pier. According to the Pier's general manager, Rachel Clark:
"You don't often bump into a living legend. They were very pleasant and supportive and said they would try to help us. Their message to us was well done for not being bullied in to giving up. His support is great. I shall send them both a form asking if they want to become members of the trust."
