On February 24, the city of Liverpool will stage a memorial concert at the Empire Theatre to commemorate the life of George Harrison. The concert will open with performances by Gerry and the Pacemakers and other Merseybeat era bands. The second half of the concert will focus on George's post-60s work. George's Traveling Wilbury bandmates, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty have been invited to perform. Other musical associates such as Eric Clapton, Joe Brown, Jools Holland and Chris de Burgh are also expected to appear. All the performers are donating their talents for the evening so that all the money raised can be donated to cancer charities.
Reports say that it is unlikely that Ringo and Sir Paul will be present at the event, however, newspapers such as London's Independent speculate that "it would be typical of Sir Paul's relationship with Liverpool for him to keep his presence low key and turn up with just a guitar in his hand."
