Today, more details of the Super Bowl pre-game show were announced.
In keeping with the "Heroes, Hope and Homeland" theme of program, Sir Paul's Freedom finale will be preceded by a series of patriotic performances. As we reported earlier, the Boston Pops Orchestra will perform Aaron Copland's musical and spoken-word composition, Lincoln Portrait. President Lincoln's words will be read in a filmed presentation by four former United States presidents - Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George Bush, and Bill Clinton. Ronald Reagan will be represented in the reading by his wife, former first lady Nancy Reagan. In addition, several past and present National Football League stars will recite portions of the Declaration of Independence.
It was announced today that Barry Manilow will perform his new composition, Let Freedom Ring, along with Yolanda Adams, James Ingram, Patti LaBelle and Wynonna. Pop groups Barenaked Ladies and No Doubt are also scheduled to appear on the program.
The pre-game show has been expanded from one hour to three. Sir Paul will not appear until the finale of the program. His appearance will immediately precede Marc Anthony and Mary J. Blige's "America the Beautiful" duet and Mariah Carey's solo performance of "The Star Spangled Banner'' just before the kickoff of the football game (at 6:00).
