According to Liverpool's Daily Post, Sir Paul and Heather spent New Year's Eve strolling arm in arm through Heswall, a small town about 30 minute drive from Liverpool. A resident of the town commented that "Celebrities, pop stars and footballers choose Heswall and Gayton because they can go shopping, take their kids to school and know they won't be mobbed or pointed out." There wasn't even a fuss (other than an occasional "Hi Paul") when the couple shopped for groceries at the local Tesco. At the check-out, Heather settled the bill while Paul chatted to the bagger, and shook hands with some of the customers. As they left the store, Sir Paul gave Heather an affectionate peck on the cheek. According to one young customer who received a McCartney hand shake, "It was a nice, low-key episode. They both looked totally relaxed and happy, as if they enjoyed pottering round with the rest of the human race. But fashionwise, they did stand out. Paul wore expensive casuals and Heather had crimson trousers and a smart jacket."
