In a recent interview with AARP Magazine, Sir Paul confesses that he worries how history will recall his role as a member of The Beatles. In the article titled "You Say Its My Birthday?" Sir Paul told the Association of Retired Persons Magazine reporter, Anthony DeCurtis:
'They say John was the Mozart, Paul was the Saileri. Like John was the real genius, and I was just the guy who sang Yesterday. People say, 'Paul, people know'. But what about in the future? If this revisionism gets around, a lot of kids will say, 'Did he have a group before Wings?''
In the article, Sir Paul also reveals how he believes John Lennon haunted the 1995 recording of the Beatles Free As A Bird single, First there was the incident when a white peacock appeared in the photo of Paul, Ringo, and George when the surviving Beatles posted outside the studio where the track was recorded:
"It was like John was hanging around. Spooky, eh? We felt that all through the recording."
Then, Sir Paul claims that John mysteriously appeared on the B-side of the single:
"We put one of those spoof backwards recordings on the end for a laugh. Then we were listening it in the studio and it goes, 'zzzwrk nggggwaaahhh jooohn lennnnnon qwwwrk' I swear to God."
The complete interview appears in the May-June, 2006 issue of the AARP Magazine.
