(Updated October 30) Beatrice Milly McCartney was born at 8:45 this evening at the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth in London. She arrived three weeks premature and was delivered by caesarian section. Beatrice weighed 3.15 kilograms (7 pounds) at birth. Both baby and mother are doing "very well". According to Claire Hornick, the hospital's director of operations:
"Everything is good, everything is well, it all went extremely smoothly. The baby was three weeks early and weighed seven pounds. It's as good as it gets."
Ms. Hornick added that McCartneys had "a good sense of humour" about earlier reports that Heather had given birth to a baby boy.
In a statement released by the new parents, Sir Paul and Heather said they were "ecstatic":
"She is a little beauty. We couldn't be prouder. Our immediate family were told the news right away and are all as overjoyed as we are at the early arrival of our little bundle of joy."
The baby is named after Heather's mother Beatrice and Sir Paul's Aunt Milly.
