(Updated October 17) Sir Paul and Heather were in Paris today to attend Stella's 9:30 a.m. fashion show at the Palais Brongniart, Place de la Bourse (an ornate hall in the Paris Stock Exchange.) Sir Paul and Heather had front row seats for Stella's unveiling of her Spring/Summer 2004 ready-to-wear collection. The show drew rave reviews from her proud father:
"I think it's fabulous. She goes from strength to strength, and it just gets classier all the time. It's getting better all the time."
It was reported that Heather was spotted with a garment from the collection, but since the room was warm, she draped her Stella McCartney jacket over her arm. Sir Paul also seized the opportunity to make a fashion statement of his own. Opening his conservative Savile Row suit jacket, he revealed his peach shirt embroidered with flowers to the reporters. He told them with a laugh:
"Check out the shirt! Come on, this is understatement."
Since the room was warm, Heather wore her Stella McCartney jacket draped over one arm.
Stella's collection is being described as soothing, soft, cool, and airy. Stella said she tried to create the impression that her models "were just floating along the runway." Stella claims the soft-toned colors of her fabrics were inspired by a fantasy:
"I always had this fantasy of having a great, great grandmother and discovering her chest of old fabrics. Once they were really bright, vibrant colors that after 40 years were dulled down. We're coming out of a very difficult moment as human beings, reacting to a lot of world turmoil. We want to breathe in air - it's time for release and to move on."
At the end of the show, Stella touched the hearts of those who overheard her asking, "Where's my dad?" as she stepped on the runway to take her bow.
