Before they were married, Sir Paul and Heather Mills traveled to the tiny state of Kerala located along the southwestern tip of India in search of inner peace. According to Jenny Stevens' article published in the Australian press, the couple celebrated Heather's birthday on a two-bedroom, traditional houseboat strewn with flowers in which they floated down waterways to the sounds of crowing of roosters and the calls to prayer of the muezzin. They slept under an arched canopy of split bamboo with protected by a mosquito net. At the end of the journey, Heather wrote in the houseboat's guest book:
"This has been the best birthday I have ever had . . . the view of the stars was breathtaking and we saw four shooting stars."
Heather's remarked were accompanied by green-ink caricatures of a satisfied cat and grinning dog and Sir Paul's words written in a tiny corner of the page:
"I agree. Magical experience."
