A 1962 demo disc of Love Me Do signed by Sir Paul became the world's most valuable single yesterday when it was sold at auction at Bonhams entertainment sale in London to an unnamed fan for $ 21,743 (EUR19,116) (see July 6). This demo of the Beatles first hit was one of the first official pressings featuring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, (spelled "McArtney" in the demo's title credit) George Harrison and Ringo Starr. According to John Baddeley, specialist at the auction house:"It appeals not only to record collectors but to Beatles fans the world over. The fact it is signed by Sir Paul, who is still going strong and has a generation of new fans, makes it more exciting."
