The British press reports that Stella McCartney has removed the shower she installed on the rooftop of her Notting Hill, West London home. Last January, the city planning chiefs gave Stella six months to dismantle the shower after it was declared out of keeping with neighboring properties. Stella's neighbors complained that the shower was highly obtrusive structure that damaged the skyline of area (see April 8, 2002). Westminster council officials agreed and added that the structure contravened planning regulations. In a letter to Stella, they wrote that the structure was:"alien and out of keeping with the character an appearance of the building and of neighboring properties. The timber fencing and shower cubicle at the rear of the property also cause serious visual harm. Both elements are obtrusive and disrupt the existing unity of the terrace.'The reports claim that her neighbors are celebrating the demise of the structure many described as looking "like a box a tramp might sleep in". One neighbor is quoted as saying:"Some celebs think they can do what they like. But this is Notting Hill not Beverly Hills. God knows why she wants an open-air shower anyway. It's too cold most of the year."
