(Updated Nadezhda Soloveva, the managing director of SAV Entertainment, announced today that Sir Paul will perform for the first time ever in Moscow on May 24. The concert will take place in Red Square and will be the only open-air performance of his world tour. According to Ms. Soloveva:"We are hoping to receive permission from the authorities to use the entire square for the concert"There are plans to project the concert on giant screens outside Red Square. In addition, talks are underway for a possible television broadcast of the concert.
(Afternoon update) Later in the day, during his web cast, Sir Paul commented:"I've long wanted to play in Russia but for a number of years when the Communists were in power they didn't want me to. I'm delighted that I can play there at last. 'I've never even visited Russia as a tourist so it's exciting now to be getting to perform there with a band and finally be singing Back in the U.S.S.R. and all these other songs for people who, I've got a feeling, might be ready for it."What else will he sing? Sir Paul said his Red Square concert would include:"some of my Beatles stuff - rather a lot of Beatles stuff, actually - some Wings stuff and some more recent stuff."
