At a New York city gala last evening, Sir Paul and Heather were honored for their leadership in humanitarian causes by United Nations Association of the United States. At a dinner attended by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and numerous United Nations diplomats and prominent guests, Sir Paul and Heather were awarded the United Nations Associations first Global Humanitarian Action Award for their dedication in promoting landmine awareness, clearance and survivor assistance programs worldwide. The honor is given for outstanding leadership by an individual or organization in furthering the purpose and principles underpinning the United Nations, as inscribed in its charter. In his remarks, UNA-USA president, William Luers,said, "The McCartneys have been tireless in their efforts to raise awareness about land mine clearance and survivor assistance."
