As part of his campaign to ban landmines, Sir Paul will appear as the host of a one-hour television program called "The Garden", the story of a Nicaraguan girl who is maimed by a landmine. It is one of a series of three programs designed to raise the awareness of international audiences to the dangers confronting children living in current and former war zones. The second program in the series is called "Abduction" and hosted is by actor Aidan Quinn (who, btw, played the role of young Paul McCartney in the 2000 film,"The Two of Us".) "Abduction" tells the story of Ugandan children forced to serve as soldiers in the Lord's Resistance Army. The third program, "His Name is Daniel" is hosted by Glenn Close and focuses on ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and explores the use of rape as a weapon of war.
The series is being aired this week for American diplomats over the U.S. State Department's internal television channel. Later this year, the programs will be broadcast worldwide through the Hallmark Channel cable network.
