Heather Mills McCartney has agreed to accept a $76,000 settlement from the Sunday Mirror newspaper for reporting that she had been investigated for charity irregularities over money raised to help victims of the Gujarat earthquake in India last year. Stephen Taylor, Heather's attorney, issued a statement yesterday that noted the irresponsibility of the article saying:"The Sunday Mirror has not served any defense to the claim and has offered amends for the damage to Heather's reputation. She is also pleased that she may now concentrate on the important issue of her charity work instead of wasting an enormous amount of valuable time and energy defending her charity and herself."The funds from the settlement will be donated to the Adopt-a-Minefield charity. Further, the newspaper will pay all of Heather's legal costs in the action.
