On August 17, you will have the opportunity to bid on Sir Paul's 1965 Radford Mini Copper S at Bonham's 5th annual Quail Lodge Sale in Carmel Valley, California. Now classified as an historic vehicle in Great Britain, Sir Paul's old Mini, customized to his personal specifications (which included designer seats, a dashboard fit for a Bentley, soundproofing, electric windows and a record player) was a gift to Sir Paul from Brian Epstein. Each Beatle received a customized Mini as a token of Mr. Epstein's thanks for the Beatles unprecedented record sales.
Between 1965 - 1970, the Mini served as Sir Paul's every-day car. Until he sold the vehicle in 1970, Sir Paul behind the wheel of his sage-green Mini, with his sheepdog Martha along for the ride, was a familiar sight in London. In the book "Many Years From Now" Sir Paul told Barry Miles that the first night he met Linda, he drove Linda and Lulu back to his house in this very Mini.
According to Bonhams vice president, Mark Osborne:"We are eager to see how collectors respond to a vehicle with such a storied celebrity heritage, especially with all the buzz surrounding the re-introduction of the new Mini Cooper and McCartney's current U.S. tour."The Bonham's annual sale attracts serious automobile collectors and enthusiasts from around the world. Admission to the Bonhams Quail Lodge Sale is $70, which admits two guests and includes registration for the sale and a handsome collector's catalogue. Interested parties are invited for viewing on Thursday August 15, Friday August 16, and prior to the sale on Saturday August 17. For more information, please telephone Bonhams at (001) (415) 3914000
