Updated July 19. Following complaints from some of the the relatives of victims of the September 11 attacks on the United States, Sir Paul has removed a promotion for his charity single Freedom from his website. The ad encouraged the reader to "show your American spirit by purchasing your copy today". Lee Ielpi, father of firefighter Jonathan Ielpe who died in the World Trade Center attack, told the New York Post: "That's not the American spirit, and it's in bad taste."
A spokesman for Sir Paul agreed that the wording could be misleading and said that the advertisement would be removed. According to the spokesman, "This was written by someone who is not used to writing for a website. It was written without authority and without thinking. As soon as it was brought to our attention, it was removed."
