Last week, we reported that London designers Caroline Eavis and Annie Brown were telling the press that they did not receive adequate recognition for the creation of Heather's wedding gown. (see June 18) In an effort to correct the situation, Heather has thanked the designers with a personal check in the amount of 10,000 pounds ($15,000). Further, she has issued this statement through the McCartney press office. Sir Paul's press agent, Geoff Baker wrote:"There has been so much confusion in the media concerning Heather's wedding dress and its creation that I thought it may help to make a few matters clear.Apparently, the designers were caught by surprise when the statement was read to them by presenter Richard Madeley on the British television program, the Richard and Judy Show. On hearing the news, all the designers could reply was, "'Oh, thank you, that's great!"
"I spoke to Heather on Saturday. She was obviously very concerned by reports that Caroline Eavis and Annie Brown had been upset. Heather has no disagreement with Caroline and Annie - Heather was thrilled with the dress, she thought they did a fantastic job and Heather considers them both to be her good friends.
"Heather did credit Caroline and Annie as designers of the dress at every opportunity. On the day before the wedding, she and Paul held a photocall for the media. A horde of TV, radio and press reporters were there and she was asked who designed the dress - she told them Eavis and Brown, and that was widely reported.
"Heather did credit Caroline and Annie at each opportunity but she is deeply concerned by Press claims that Caroline and Annie were disappointed. She hates that her friends should also be disappointed over a reported potential loss of business and so Heather is sending Caroline and Annie a check for GBP 10,000 - of her own money - to pay for the dress and for all of Caroline and Annie's excellent work on it."
