Updated July 2. Sir Paul has authorized the use of a sample of his material for use in a hip hop recording. On July 30, a new single called "Muzik" will be released by Los Angeles rapper Knoc-Turn'al which borrows a section of the Wings tune "Old Siam, Sir" from the 1979 Back to the Egg album.
According the the artist Knoc-Turn'al, "Muzik" is "sort of a rock thing" In a statement, the rapper explained that at first Sir Paul wasn't going to authorize the use of his material, "but when he heard it and realized it was a positive song, he cleared it. So I wanna give Paul McCartney a shout-out for doing that."
Knoc thanked Sir Paul again during his appearance at this week's BET awards saying, "Paul told us, 'The only reason why I cleared it was because I liked it. Had I not liked it, I wouldn't have cleared it,' So thank you, Paul. Big shout out to Paul McCartney for doing that." Knoc then issued an invitation to Sir Paul to appear in his video and to join him in a little crowd-surfing:"Come get in the video, too ... We can go to Paris, man — that's where they want to shoot it at ... By the time I get to the third verse, I'm gonna walk out onstage and hopefully Paul will be there. And we'll get on a platform, and a guitar player will be there, and we'll just start crowd-surfing, have the crowd passing us around, and we'll just do it like that ... You really give up your all to be an entertainer, and that's something that the fans and the public need to know. So I just explain that to them in that song. I think [McCartney] appreciated that, because he understands that he probably sacrificed a lot being that he's been here for 35 years, almost 40 years. He's probably sacrificed a lot in almost four decades."
