Today's London Evening Standard reports that yesterday Stella McCartney threw a baby shower in her Notting Hill home for her sister Mary, and three of Stella's friends - supermodel Kate Moss, Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri and actress Sadie Frost. A baby shower is an American tradition that is currently finding popularity among celebrities in Britain. Female friends of the mother-to-be (in this case, party organizers Meg Mathews and Fran Cutler, Gwyneth Paltrow, and artist Sam Taylor-Wood) have a party to shower the new mother with presents for her baby.
Stella's baby shower ran from 5:50 p.m. until midnight. The guests gathered in Stella's beautiful sunken Japanese garden where they enjoyed an hors d'oeuvres buffet, punch served from four separate punch bowls, and champagne and wine chilled in giant plastic pails filled with ice. Around 8:00, the party moved to the roof, the site of Stella's famous open air shower. (see April 8)
At 9:00 (midnight in the Seychelles), Stella and her guests called Sir Paul to wish him a happy birthday and to sing, "Happy birthday, dear Dad" to him. Earlier in the day, when the vans of flowers, balloons, cakes, fresh fruit, beer and crates of champagne arrived at Stella's home, there was speculation that Stella was having a party in celebration of her father's 60th birthday.
Stella appears to be making an effort to dispel the rumors that her father's remarriage has caused a rift in the McCartney family. Earlier in the day, Stella told an Evening Standard reporter that, "The family is fine, we are all fine. There are no problems and reports have been wildly inaccurate. There is no feud and I will be celebrating my father's 60th birthday as any daughter would."
