It doesn't appear that Heather's father will be walking her down the aisle on her wedding day. Not only has he not been invited to the ceremony, but, according to Mark Mills, Sir Paul has also banned him from speaking to anyone about the wedding.
Mr. Mills has posted a sign that reads, "No comment - it's family business" on the door of his Washington, Wearside home. He told reporters, "I've been told not to say anything. It's not up to me, because I would tell you everything. I love Heather - but Paul rang me and said he wanted no press or publicity." (However, this didn't stop him form showing reporters the wedding gift he purchased for the couple - a crystal glass fruit bowl engraved with the words: "To Heather and Macca from Father".)
Heather has been estranged from her father for nearly 14 years. She included the reasons why in her autobiography. Mr. Mills has met Sir Paul, however, although it was a long time ago. Back in the 60s, guitarist Mark Mills once played on the same bill as the Beatles. Since then, Mr. Mills suffered a stroke 12 years ago which has left him disabled.
Mr. Mills told one reporter, "I haven't had an invite yet, but with the stroke it would be difficult for me to travel to New York." To another reporter he said, "I'm still waiting for an invite but I've not heard anything. I still love Heather very much and would love to go to the wedding. But I've had no news at all. I was upset when a family friend told me she was getting engaged to Paul. I thought she'd have phoned me herself. I'd like to see her more but she is very busy. Even if I don't go, I hope they will be very happy together."
