According to the Sunday Times, Sir Paul is about to become the highest paid British performer of all time. If Sir Paul agrees to perform for one night, on April 6, at the Las Vegas MGM Grand, he will be paid $4 million. (See February 1) The man who compiles the Sunday Times Rich List, Philip Beresford, states: "No British artist has ever earnt so much from one show. It would be McCartney's equivalent of coming up with all the cherries on a slot machine."
Sir Paul may well be considering the offer. Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of Pollstar, a trade magazine for the concert industry, said: "Las Vegas is no longer the graveyard of fading rock stars. Now everybody wants to play there. McCartney is the kind of act the casinos like because he draws an older crowd with money."
Scott Ghertner, director of promotions and sporting events at the MGM Grand, revealed that the hotel hopes to close the deal this week: "McCartney would be a great event for us. We have not signed him yet, but talks are continuing and we hope to make an announcement within a few days."
Ticket prices for the hotel's 15,000-seat arena could likely run as high as $375 per ticket.
