Today, New York Newsday's Liz Smith writes that following his performance at last week's Super Bowl game, Sir Paul and Heather, accompanied by his band and crew, celebrated at New Orleans' famous Polo Lounge in the Windsor Court Hotel. One of the waiters reported that Sir Paul ordered a 12-year-old Macallen Scotch on the rocks with a Coca-Cola on the side. Heather sipped on a Cosmopolitan.
It seems they didn't come for the drinks, but rather to hear a performance by a New Orleans favorite, Charlie Dennard. Mr. Dennard claims to have almost had a heart attack when Sir Paul walked up and introduced himself. Sir Paul told him that he had enjoyed listening to Charlie Dennard's band, Quintology, on his previous visit. (See August 19, 2001 below.) Then he requested a song. Would Charlie please play The Very Thought of You? Sir Paul explained, "It's an 'our song' for me and Heather." Charlie and the band were pleased to comply. Then Sir Paul requested that they play the song again, but this time, Sir Paul stood and sang the song to Heather while other the Polo Lounge guests looked on in happy amazement. "We were all overwhelmed," remarked one of the waiters.
