Stella McCartney is investing $6 million in her first Stella McCartney Ltd boutique. Stella is spending an $2.7 million to renovate a derelict church located on Golborne Road between Ladbroke Grove and Kensal Rise. The property, called Peake House, has been vacant for five years. It stands between a Moroccan grocers and an Indian restaurant.
Stella purchased the West London church with the financial support of her father, even though he is not pleased that the shop will be located in an undesirable area of the city. Golborne Road runs adjacent to Portobello Road that borders on council estate where drugs and crime are rampant. Sir Paul is making sure that a state-of-the-art security system will be installed in the shop. According to a friend of the family, "Paul is so proud of what Stella has achieved and is backing her in this venture - but he is very worried about her personal security and the expensive clothes which will be stored in the shop."
The merchants of the area welcome her arrival. One clothing designer with a shop just opposite Stella's new property stated, 'I am not at all concerned about having another clothes shop over the road. I welcome competition and I think Stella's move here will do a lot for the area."
Later this year, Stella plans to open another boutique in New York city.
